July 2008

Abbey Athletic changes their name to Werrington Athletic to reinforce their identity within the local community and reflect where we are based. This change is effective from 1st July 2008. Contrary to one or two rumours, Abbey have not “dropped out of the league”, we are just entering with our new name, Werrington Athletic.

June 2008

Abbey 5’s day was held on the 29th June and thanks to good weather yet again was a fantastic success. Thanks to all the players who came along and had a great days football. Thanks to all the parents for your support on the day and for the season in general. We look forward to another great season.

May 2008

Congratulations to the Under 13 Red’s for reaching the PFA cup final held at London Road. The boys gave a great account of themselves before succumbing to a very good Stanground side. Manager Richard Marriott was quick to congratulate the boys on the achievement and said that they had “done themselves proud”.

April 2008

In April 2008, the Under 13 Red and Under 14 Blue team visited a number of clubs in the Netherlands to play friendly matches. The welcome we received was fantastic and we were all envious of the facilities on hand. Our accommodation was at Centre Parks which was just superb. The 2009 tour is already being discussed.
